Calculating GPE and KE

Jamie Z 2024-01-29

Learning Goals

  • Recall the formulas for KE and GPE
  • Calculate the unknown in KE and GPE problems

Gravitational potential

💡

\[ GPE = mgh = mass\]gravityheight \[\]

  • GPE is dependent on mass (kg), height (m) and acceleration due to Earth’s gravitational field (9.8m/s)

Kinetic Energy

💡

\[ KE = \frac{1}{2}mv^2 \]

  • KE is the energy of the mass in motion, then the velocity which an object travels and the mass of the objects would be needed to determine is KE
  • Mass (kg), Velocity (m/s)
