Newton’s Laws
Jamie Z 2024-06-17Learning Goals
- Learn and understand Newton’s laws
Newton’s Laws of Motion
- Law of inertia
- F=ma
- Action = Reaction
1st Law of Motion
- An object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion at a constant velocity, unless acted upon by an external force
- Inertia is the tendency of an object to resist changes in its velocity
Friction
- A force that acts on an object in motion
- There are 4 types of Friction:
- Sliding friction - Also dynamic friction
- Rolling friction - On a ball
- Fluid Friction - Air or Water
- Static friction - Initial friction
2nd Law of Motion
- The net force of an object is equal to the product of tis mass and acceleration, or F=ma
- M = mass(kg)
- A = Acceleration (m/s/s)
- F = Force (N)
Example
\[ F=ma \ F=3*4 \ F=12N \]
3rd Law of Motion
- For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
- The normal force is the equal and opposite reaction force of the force due to gravity
- According to Newton, whenever objects A and B interact with each other they exert force upon each other
