Types of Energy

Jamie Z 2024-01-29

Learning Goals

  • Define the term ‘Energy’
  • Recall the different types of energies and their relevance to the world

Types of Energy

Energy in Action

  • Light
  • Sound
  • Kinetic
  • Thermal (heat)
  • Electrical

Stored Energy

  • Gravitational Potential (GPE)
  • Nuclear
  • Chemical
  • Elastic Potential

What is Energy?

  • Energy is the capacity to do work
  • Energy can be stored as potential energy or it can be energy in action

💡

How are there three different types of energy?

  • Energy can be transformed from one form to another
  • Transfer - Energy is transferred from one object to another
  • Transform - Energy transforms into another type of energy

Law of Conservation of Energy

💡

  • This principle holds true for all types of energy, including kinetic energy (energy of motion), potential energy (stored energy), thermal energy (heat), and others.
  • The overall amount of energy is maintained - Energy input = Energy output
