Combustion

  • Exothermic reaction releasing a lot of energy by a substance combusting
  • A lot of heat is produced when a substance combusts

Decomposition

  • Compound breaks into smaller parts such as compounds or elements

    (A)(B) ———> (A) + (B)

  • You can have multiple products but one reactant

Synthesis

  • Multiple reactants combine to form a single product

    (A) + (B) ———> (A)(B)

Single Displacement

  • Form of substitute reaction. If a compound has two parts, a single displacement reaction is one of those parts is swapped for a new part

Double Displacement

  • Two compound (ionic compound) reacts with another two part compound. Both compounds break apart, then rearrange in a different order
